The Mission

As a leader in aviation, precision, safety, and innovation drive your work. At Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF), those same values have guided us for over 80 years as we bring help, hope, and healing to isolated communities worldwide.

MAF uses aviation and technology to overcome barriers to development delivering medical care, humanitarian aid, and disaster relief where conventional transport cannot reach.

The Challenge

Poverty and isolation are intrinsically linked. The more remote a community, the less access they have to the essentials of life and the opportunities that medical care and education can provide. When it comes to access, MAF are working hard to level the playing field. Ironically, however, the same barriers that we are seeking to overcome, such as limited infrastructure, conflict, and geographical hurdles, also push our operational limits.

Maintaining an ageing fleet that operates out of dirt and grass airstrips in some of the world’s harshest environments means facing constant pressure from limited access to aviation parts, affordable fuel, and skilled engineering support. That is why we are constantly seeking partnerships that can not only help to fund our mission but also provide innovative solutions.

Invitation for Collaboration

With over 80 years of experience operating in diverse and challenging international environments, MAF has developed resilient systems and deep operational capacity. However, sustaining and expanding our mission requires more than just infrastructure it demands the strategic investment of time, financial resources, and specialist knowledge.

That’s where you come in. By partnering with us in these three vital areas, you can help us overcome current operational hurdles and proactively prepare for future challenges. We invite you to walk alongside us, sharing your expertise, advocating for our mission, and investing in the future of aviation-based humanitarian support.

Impact

Papua New Guinea (PNG) occupies the eastern half of the world’s second-largest island. Much of its rural population lives in extreme poverty, largely due to geographic isolation. In stark contrast to the UK, only 2% of PNG’s roads are paved, making ground transportation extremely limited and hazardous. The country’s healthcare system is among the weakest globally, with fewer than one doctor per 1,000 people. As a result, the infant mortality rate is an alarming 1 in 25.

More than 200 remote communities in PNG rely on MAF aircraft as their only means of reaching critical medical services. On average, a 40-minute MAF flight can replace more than 65 hours of treacherous travel on foot through dense jungle, a journey that would be virtually impossible for a pregnant woman or a severely ill child. In many cases, an MAF flight can literally be the difference between life and death.
