This event is a must for anyone with an interest in humanitarian aviation. Join us as Air Vice Marshal Simon Edwards describe his extensive experiences in operational command and high‑stakes decision‑making from more than three decades at the heart of the RAF’s global operations. He will give his insight into the challenges of getting humanitarian aid into some of the world’s most isolated regions.

We are also delighted that there will be a chance to sit down with the new CEO of MAF UK, Mike Fagg, as he shares some of the vital work of MAF in reaching the unreachable through aviation. Join us to be inspired by first‑hand insights into modern air operations and leadership under pressure.

Speaker

Air Vice-Marshal Simon Edwards CB MA RAF – Director People and Air Secretary. Simon joined the RAF in 1990 and is a highly experienced pilot, with operational, instructional and command roles on the C-130K and C-17A. He commanded the RAF’s C-17 Squadron, 904 EAW in Afghanistan, and served as Station Commander RAF Brize Norton. His senior staff appointments include roles with the Cabinet Office and across Capability in MOD and Air Command, where he oversaw major programmes such as A400M and the UK Military Flying Training System. Promoted to Air Vice-Marshal in 2021, he became Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Strategy) and, in 2023, was appointed Director People and Air Secretary. In 2025, he was appointed a Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath.
