Sam and Ruth Rowell

Sam has always loved fixing things and Ruth has always loved people! After attending an MAF open day, the engineering training scheme seemed like the perfect option to combine these passions with their desire to see the Gospel shared to the ends of the earth.

Sam and Ruth both grew up in the east end of London, but they only met at university in Durham, studying aeronautical engineering and maths respectively. Ruth spent the 2022/23 academic year in North Africa, home-schooling for a missionary family. This confirmed her heart for other cultures, so she was delighted when Sam phoned her after an MAF open day, full of excitement at the possibility of training as an aircraft maintenance engineer and moving overseas to serve. As a faithful supporter of MAF for decades, it was Sam’s granny who first told him about the open day.

Sam and Ruth got married at the end of 2024 and accepted Sam’s place on the scheme in November 2025. They are currently based in Buckingham but will be moving to Pontypridd in the summer, ready for Sam to begin his training in September. He will be studying aircraft maintenance engineering at the University of South Wales for three years before completing his training with a two-year practical placement. God-willing, the couple will then begin working as part of an MAF programme overseas.

In the meantime, Ruth and Sam are building a team to partner with them through prayer and financial giving, in order to facilitate this work. They would love for you to consider supporting them in this way.

Would you prayerfully consider joining their support team?
