As a Christian mission, we seek people with suitable skills, qualifications and experience who also sense God is calling them to work abroad. Serving with MAF is an adventure and there are many benefits, but MAF seeks those who are flexible and resilient enough to thrive in a dynamic environment.

Anyone interested in serving with MAF should get in touch with us early on so that we can advise on requirements and suitability. We are happy to meet with you for an informal chat about life and work with MAF. Those meeting role requirements are initially interviewed by MAF UK. Those put forward will undergo further interviews and assessments carried out by MAF International.

These will include personal and spiritual maturity, professional skills, and personality assessments. Spouses will also be interviewed. Pilot candidates will undertake aptitude, flight, psychological and technical evaluation. Management candidates will undertake management assessments.

Due to the nature of servers and cloud-based storage all over the world, this may mean that, during the processing of your data, it leaves the UK. Although they may not be subject to the same data protection laws as in the UK, we will take steps to make sure they provide an adequate level of protection in accordance with UK data protection law.

For data that is stored outside of the UK, we share data to countries for which an adequacy decision is in place. If there is no adequacy decision in place, we have Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) in place with the relevant third parties.

All volunteers receive an induction and will be given all the training and support necessary to feel confident in the role. Staff members are on hand to provide ongoing help and support.  Each pathway lists the training requirements and expectations in the role description which we will supply you with.

Some of your information will be passed to third-party service providers that perform functions on our behalf, such as:

• Digital advertising/marketing including social media organisations.
• Paper advertising/marketing.
• Payment processing.
• Sending postal mail.
• Managing data.
• Storing data.
• Analysing data.
• Research and lead generation.

These companies may only use your information to perform these functions and may not use it for any other purposes. We carry out comprehensive checks on these companies before we work with them and put a contract in place, wherever possible, that sets out our expectations and requirements, especially regarding how they manage the personal data they have collected or to which they have access. They are required to destroy this information once the function for which it has been transferred has been carried out.

If required, we may need to disclose your details to the police, regulatory bodies or legal advisors.

The security of your information is very important to us. We ensure that there are appropriate controls and procedures in place to protect your personal details. For example, information you submit on a physical form or when filling out online forms is encrypted and stored on a secure server. We also use encryption and secure servers when you make a donation via our website.

However, despite all the security and protection we put in place, the Internet cannot be guaranteed to be 100% secure.

We undertake regular reviews of who has access to information we hold to ensure that your details are only accessible by appropriately trained and authorised staff.

The information we gather helps us to send you what you want when you want it, to fulfil orders for resources, and send you updates and information about our work.

It also helps us to shape our fundraising activities to ensure that our communication is relevant and timely, and provides you with a good experience of supporting MAF UK. Importantly, having accurate information that we can analyse enables us to tailor approaches and to be wise stewards of the resources entrusted to us, ensuring that the maximum amount possible goes to providing life-saving flights in developing countries.

We do not sell or share personal details to third parties for the purposes of their marketing.

The below table shows the purposes for which we process your personal data and the lawful bases we rely on for those purposes.

If you support us — for example, make a donation, sign up to receive news of our work, volunteer, take part in an event, or order our resources — we will usually collect:

-Your name.

-Your contact details, including postal address, email, telephone numbers, along with your preferences as to which of these we should use to contact you in the future.

-Your date of birth.

-Bank account details if you make a regular donation by direct debit or standing order.

-Debit or credit card details used to donate to us or when ordering resources – this could be online, over the phone or by mail. We will process your information securely and in accordance with the Payment Card Industry Standards. Your details are only used to complete the transaction requested; we do not store your debit or credit card details. If you have provided them physically, they are securely destroyed once your donation or payment has completed.

-Your Gift Aid status.

-Your position within an organisation or charitable trust (if relevant).

-In some cases, we may also gather additional personal information which may include your interests in aviation, overseas development, philanthropic activities and your other interests.

-Other personal information or sensitive data you share with us, such as your family information, denomination, and your home church, and any appropriate health issues you may have told us about that will help us communicate with you in the most appropriate way (eg, large print).

We receive your personal data both directly and indirectly.

Receiving your personal data directly

We receive your personal data when you contact MAF UK to make a donation, register to receive news about our work, sign up to MAF UK’s online content, or you telephone, email, write to or text MAF UK, engage with MAF UK via social media channels, sign up for one of our events, or order our resources online.

We receive your personal data when you attend a meeting or an event, fill out a questionnaire, join our business club or have a conversation with us and provide us with information about yourself.

Receiving your personal data indirectly

We sometimes receive your personal data indirectly. For example, your information may be shared with us by independent fundraising sites such as JustGiving or Virgin Money Giving when you give a gift. These organisations will only do so with your consent if you have indicated that you wish to support MAF UK. You should check their Privacy Notice when providing your information to understand fully how they will process your data.

Publicly available data

In addition, we may seek further information about you that is publicly available from external sources. We use this to gain a better understanding of our supporters (particularly our major donors) to enable us to communicate with you in more appropriate ways that may suit your interests.

MAF Coffee Offer – Terms and Conditions

1. The coffee will be delivered once a month for a maximum of 12 months.

2. The coffee bags contain 250g of ground coffee.

3. This is a limited-time offer and only available within MAF’s Grow Their Future campaign. The offer can be withdrawn or reinstated at any point at MAF UK’s sole discretion.

4. This offer is only open to those who don’t currently hold an active monthly direct debit with MAF UK.

5. Donors will be eligible for coffee deliveries if their monthly direct debit is set to a minimum of £22.

6. You will receive your first coffee delivery after funds are received by MAF UK from your first month’s direct debit payment.

7. If the monthly direct debit is cancelled at any point within the first 12 months, future coffee deliveries will be cancelled.

8. If the monthly direct debit is modified to be below £22 per month at any point within the first 12 months, future coffee deliveries will be cancelled.

9. If you are a recipient of the monthly coffee offer, Gift Aid will only be claimed on the monthly direct debit gifts subject to compliance with HMRC donor-benefit rules. This will not affect the recovery of gift aid on other ‘normal’ gifts.

10. MAF UK have the right to cancel or modify the coffee delivery at any time, in its sole discretion. Notification of any such cancellation or modification will be provided through our official channels.

11. The provided email address will be used to send tracking information to you from Royal Mail about your coffee deliveries, and by MAF UK to send you email updates and stories. You can unsubscribe from MAF UK updates and stories at any time by contacting us at supporter.relations@maf-uk.org or calling us at 01303 852819.

12. Coffee deliveries may be delayed due to circumstances beyond MAF UK’s control. MAF UK shall not be held liable for any inconvenience, loss, or damage resulting from such delays.

13. If you receive coffee that is damaged or you have any concerns, please notify MAF UK within 14 days by contacting supporter.relations@maf-uk.org or calling 01303 852819. While MAF UK will make reasonable efforts to address issues, replacements or refunds are not guaranteed.

14. MAF UK will source the coffee from Mill Bank Coffee Co.; the coffee beans used are sourced from the countries that MAF serves in. However, MAF has not flown or been involved in sourcing this coffee.

15. MAF UK reserves the right to send an alternative blend of coffee from Mill Bank Coffee Co. to donors, should the advertised ‘MAF Blend’ stock become unavailable.

16. MAF UK accepts no liability for any medical, dietary, or allergy-related issues arising from the consumption of the coffee provided as part of this offer. It is the donor’s responsibility to check ingredients and suitability before consumption.

17. Whilst the donor is eligible for the coffee deliveries, coffee will be sent to the delivery address supplied. It is the donors’ responsibility to notify MAF UK of any change of address.

18. MAF UK does not guarantee the taste, quality, or freshness of the coffee provided as part of this offer. All coffee is supplied by Mill Bank Coffee Co., and any variations in flavour or quality are subject to their standards. MAF UK shall not be held liable for dissatisfaction or differences from donor expectations.

19. Donors can request to stop receiving the coffee deliveries at any point by contacting supporter.relations@maf-uk.org or calling 01303 852819.

20. After the donor has received their 12 months of coffee deliveries, the monthly direct debit will continue unless the donor instructs MAF UK to cancel or amend it.

21. MAF UK shall export customer order data into a secure file to Mill Bank. Mill Bank will import the received order data directly into its Royal Mail fulfilment system for the purposes of processing and dispatching orders. Customer data will not be stored by Mill Bank beyond the fulfilment import process. Immediately after import, Mill Bank agrees to delete all local copies of the data. Both Parties agree to comply with all applicable data protection laws and regulations, including

We flew more than 333,000 miles in 2019 and carried over 148 tonnes of freight.

MAF recruits on an ongoing basis for Pilots, Engineers and Avionics Technicians, and a wide range of management roles including maintenance, security, finance, HR and IT. We’d love to hear from you if you are considering training as a pilot or engineer with a view to work with MAF. We recognise it’s a big investment so having early contact with MAF is vital to get good advice and help to confirm potential suitability.

Occasionally we can place short term staff within MAF programmes, these roles tend to be for those with specific skills required for a project or to cover staff absence. Volunteer opportunities are occasionally available for those exploring their call to mission and suitability for a cross cultural work. Unfortunately. we can’t accept Pilots for short term assignments.

Staff receive a basic salary and access to agreed allowances to cover housing, travel, medical, schooling etc. All staff contribute to these costs through personal support raising. This is done with the support and guidance of MAF UK and involves building a group of supporters who will pray and financially support you.

Working hours for MAF staff working abroad are usually 38 hours per week. Staff are entitled to 20 days annual leave plus a minimum of 8 public holidays per year. Home assignment is provided in addition and accrues at 3 weeks per year, it is normally taken every 2 years, and is used for support raising, visiting MAF UK, medicals and debriefs.

Pilots must abide by duty hours set in each country according to local CAA requirements.

This varies dependant on the role and training required and is agreed between staff and MAF. However, pre-field preparation is usually 6 months. This covers induction, support raising, a visit to the location of service, as well as practical arrangements for leaving the UK.

MAF considers family needs seriously and takes these into account where possible when deciding the deployment location. Work opportunities for spouses and accessibility to visas also vary by location, as do schooling levels for children. Sometimes staff relocate to a different programme to accommodate stages of education.

MAF takes the broad pastoral care of staff and their families seriously and does not send a staff member overseas to work for normal assignments without their spouse or any children living at home under their parent’s responsibility.

The home Church is a partner in supporting staff throughout their MAF journey. They will help test calling and will provide prayer and pastoral support before, during, and following service. They may or may not be able to support financially. If helpful, we can arrange for a MAF speaker to visit your home Church.

There is good medical care available in most locations and, where necessary, we support travel to higher levels of care. MAF holds emergency medical and evacuation insurance and has self-funded medical coverage for general ailments. Candidates undertake medical and psychological assessments to determine their suitability and to provide guidance for their location of service.

Throughout service, medical and psychological reviews or debriefs are available. MAF provides access to pastoral care and counselling services via an employee assistance programme and this is available for job holders and accompanying family members.

The current population of South Sudan is 10.9 million, with just 1 in 5 people living in urban areas 

There are 60 indigenous languages spoken across South Sudan, though English is the official language

South Sudan is land-locked and borders 6 countries: Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic

MAF flies into 74 airstrips across the country, from main towns with tarmac runways to remote villages with short dirt strips.

In 2019, MAF flew 8,484 passengers in South Sudan and worked with 219 partner organisations.

Many pathways just require your time, energy, and enthusiasm! Some pathways however do require certain skills and experience.  Volunteer role descriptions will list any additional skills or experience you may need.

There are 78 people groups in South Sudan. Christianity is the largest religion but there are still some people groups unreached with the Gospel.

Since December 2013, almost 2 million South Sudanese have fled to neighbouring countries for safety, and at least 400,000 people have been killed.

Much of the road network is in disrepair. There are less than 200 miles of paved roads in a country the size of France.

By making your Will now, you can be assured that your estate will go exactly where you want it to and that your loved ones will be provided for. It also gives you the chance to make a lasting difference to the causes you care most about.
