Global Week of Prayer

Elohim – God The Creator

Start by watching the video

This is the first name of God to appear in the Bible. It reflects the idea of God’s creative power, His authority, might and sovereignty over the whole earth. Not only did Elohim create the world but He sustains and holds it together.

The same power that created the earth and raised Jesus from the dead enables us, in a sense, to be co-creators with Christ. Every day presents an exciting opportunity to marvel at God’s creative power and find comfort in the fact that He holds all things together and encourages us to partner with Him in praying for His creation.

A prayer for South Sudan

Today, we lift up South Sudan. Thank you for our work there, which began in 1950. You haven’t forgotten the people of South Sudan and we are privileged to serve them with a fleet of 7 planes and 52 staff. We pray for lasting peace to visit this troubled nation. We pray too for creative solutions to provide its isolated communities with the things we take for granted. We thank You that the work of the country’s churches makes a vital difference, and that people are open to the Gospel. Finally, we pray for the many precious people who’ve been traumatised by war, asking that MAF will play a vital part in bringing them help, hope and healing.

As we finish this week of prayer, we echo Peter’s declaration that Jesus is ‘the Messiah, the Son of the living God’ (Matthew 16:16).

He is ‘the name above all names’ (Philippians 2:9).

We place all these requests into Your hands, Lord, trusting in Your power and sovereignty.

‘“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty”’ (Revelation 1:8).
